Possible Fujiwhara Effect
As Supertyphoon Fengshen continues westward, another TC has formed east of the Philippines (not yet named as of 00UTC on 19 July). The ECMWF predictions call for a north-northeastward motion of the latter by 21/7 (Fig. 1). By 23/7, the two systems are predicted to begin a Fujiwhara-type interaction (Fig. 2) so that by 25/7, Fengshen is predicted to move towards the East China coast and 13W towards the northeast (Fig. 3). The interaction can also be seen on the predicted 500-hPa height field for 24/7 (Fig. 4).
